No matter who we are or what we buy, we all love getting a great deal!

It could be for a big ticket item, like “dealer invoice pricing” on a car or a great mortgage rate for our home. Or it could be rather small yet satisfying — like a 2-for-1 sale on laundry detergent.

However, while it’s always wise and wonderful to get more than we pay for, there are times when it really doesn’t work out for us in the long-run. Instead of saving money and feeling satisfied, we end up having to spend more and deal with tons of stress. Unfortunately, this is what many homeowners experience when they buy a cheap garage door.

Why is this? It’s because cheap garage doors aren’t cheap by accident. They’re cheap for several reasons; all of which are clearly not in your best interest. For instance, cheap garage doors typically:

    1. Are made with sub-standard materials
    2. Have a much shorter lifespan of a few years
    3. Use hinges, cables, rollers, bearings, springs and other parts that aren’t durable and designed daily wear-and-tear
    4. Require expensive aftermarket replacement parts
    5. Dent easier (not good news for when street hockey season starts!)
    6. Are not energy efficient and therefore drive up home heating and air condition costs
    7. Are noisier which can interfere with various indoor activities, including sleep quality
    8. May present a security risk which can lead to thefts
    9. Are not backed up with a long-term comprehensive parts and service warranty

And what about the 10th reason? We’ve saved that for last, because it’s a MAJOR factor, and one that many companies that sell cheap garage doors don’t want you to know: an inferior garage door can measurably lower the resale value of your home. As such, the so-called savings that you enjoy today could be offset or totally wiped out if you decide to put your home on the market in the future.

Value is Good – Cheap is Not!

The moral to this story is simple: seeking value is smart, and you should definitely ensure that you’re getting a fair deal when you purchase your garage door – or anything else for that matter!

However, going after the cheapest price and ignoring all of the other factors that matter – like craftsmanship, quality, parts, reliability, noise reduction, durability, energy efficiency, and so on – is a recipe for added costs and tons of stress down the road.

At Atlas Overhead Doors, we pride ourselves on offering tremendous value that is 100% in our customer’s best interest. We aren’t here simply to make a sale. We’re here to build a relationship!

Give us a call today, and we’ll be pleased to provide you with information, advice and guidance to help you make the right decision – which is one where you get a great deal AND “peace of mind” quality, craftsmanship and service!
