handsome boy talking on the phone

If you’re a regular reader of our helpful articles here on the Atlas Overhead Doors website, you already know that our goal is never to “sell” you anything that you might not want or need.
Rather, our focus is on empowering you with honest, objective and practical information that will help you and your family make informed decisions – regardless of whether that means you become a customer of ours or not.

Why are we bringing this up? It’s because, over the years, we’ve heard some rather disturbing stories from customers of other companies (who shall remain nameless) — stories that involve getting grossly over-charged for service and repairs, and sometimes, even paying for so-called “work” that is either unnecessary, or not performed at all.

Fortunately, stories like these are few and far between, and most companies in our industry are generally honest. However, as they say, “it only takes a few bad apples to spoil the barrel,” and some people have been taken to the proverbial cleaners.

Obviously, if you deal with us, you’ll NEVER have to worry about a negative service or billing experience – our stellar reputation speaks for itself! However, if you choose to do business with another company (which of course is your right!), then here are 3 questions to ask BEFORE you call for service or repairs:

1. What are the reason(s) for my call?

While it may be true that your garage door “isn’t working the way it should,” it’s in your best interest to take a few minutes and write down precisely what you think is wrong. For example, is the door closing too slowly or too quickly? Is it making loud and/or unusual noises? Whatever your concerns, write them down so that you can immediately demonstrate that you’re a prepared, informed customer.

2. What repair and service work have I had in the past?

Just as with your car, whenever you call for repairs or service on your garage door you want to have a list of all work that has been done in the past. It also helps to note any steps you’ve taken to solve the problem.

3. What is my garage door’s make and model

Most people are surprised to discover that there are dozens of different garage door models, and each has its own unique design and construction. Having your garage door’s make and model handy will speed up the process of identifying how to best solve your problem.

The Bottom Line

Some people can feel a little intimidated when it comes to speaking with service and repair technicians about their garage door, because they feel that they’re at such an extreme disadvantage when it comes to separating fact from fiction.

However, the good news is that you don’t have to worry at all! As long as you work with a reputable company with a proven history of honesty, integrity and service, and if you answer the 3 questions noted above BEFORE you call, you’ll never have to worry about being taken advantage of. On the contrary, you’ll be able to take advantage of the world class support that you need — and deserve!
