Garage door has a problem
Posted by: admin on October 19, 2015
Just like any other major appliance, your garage door system relies on many interconnected parts that all need to work together in order to achieve the same goal: efficient, reliable and safe operation. However, while quality, regularly maintained garage door systems are designed to last for decades, through regular wear-and-tear – or possibly as a result of an accident, such as bumping the garage door with a car – your garage door springs may give you some clues that it’s time for a change. To help you get ahead of the curve – so that you can stay safe and save money -- here are 4 key signs that it’s probably time to replace your garage door springs:

1.  Problems Opening/Closing the Door
If your garage door suddenly stops while opening or closing, then worn out or damaged springs could be the root cause. For your safety, NEVER manually force your garage door shut or open if this happens! Call Atlas Doors and we’ll send someone out right away to solve the problem.

2. Crooked Garage Door
If your garage door starts to slant or appear crooked, then there’s a good chance your springs are no longer in peak operating condition.

3. Visible Wear and Tear
Sometimes, you don’t need to “read between the lines” or speculate on what may be wrong, because your eyes clearly tell you what’s going on. If you visually inspect your springs and see that they’re worn out, stretched, or in some cases even severed (this will look like a clean break between two sections of coiled spring), then your next call should be to Atlas Doors.

4. You or Someone Else Has Dinged the Garage
Just as driving over a pothole or bumping into the curve can throw off your car’s alignment, bumping into the garage door can damage the springs. We recommend that you always call for an inspection after you or anyone else bumps your garage door, even if there are no obvious signs of damage to the garage door system.
This is because, as noted earlier there are many interconnected parts – the springs being just one of them – and a bump could dislodge or damage any of them. It’s much wiser to err on the side of caution here; not just for safety’s sake, but because a quick proactive repair job could save you hundreds in repair bills down the road – not to mention added stress and inconvenience.
