Group of Dogs

If you share your home with one or more cats, dogs, rabbits or other loveable creatures that playfully wander around your yard, driveway and garage area (and, alas, never grow tired of trying to invade your garbage containers!), then one of your top safety priorities is to ensure that your garage door is pet safe.
Here are some simple ways to achieve this key goal:
1. Regularly test your garage door’s automatic reverse system, and ensure that it re-opens the moment it detects any obstruction. A simply way to test this is by putting a cardboard box beneath your garage door and instructing it to close (either by pressing the button or using your remote). If it’s working properly, your garage door will reverse when it comes into contact with the box. If it’s not working properly, it will either partly or wholly crush the box.

2. Regularly test your garage door’s motion detection system. To do this, simply stand on your driveway and instruct your door to close. While this is happening, kick a ball (or some other relatively small object) into the garage, so that it passes the invisible motion detection beam. If your garage door is working properly, it will immediately stop and reverse when the motion is detected. If it’s not working properly, it will continue to close.

3. Ensure that your pets don’t chew or gnaw on the garage door cables. These cables are deliberately designed to be very taut, and if chewed will snap – and potentially harm your pets.

4. Never tie your dog or cat to your garage door – even if it’s just temporarily while you do some yard work, or run inside to answer the phone. It only takes a few seconds for a tragedy to occur. If you need to tie your pet up, then simply visit your local pet store where you’ll find a variety of safe and reliable options.

Concerned about Safety? Call Us!
Take a look (a flashlight may help here) to see if there’s anything obstructing the track door, such as stones or dried paint. If so, then try removing them – but without putting excess force on the track. The last thing you want is to put your own safety at risk, or cause costly damage.
